Amar was born in the Borj al-Barajneh neighborhood in 1956, and was a public school teacher before entering politics. He underwent an Islamic religious education under Sayyed Mousa al-Sadr, Ayatollah Mohammad Mahdi Shamseddine, and Ayatollah Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah. He was first elected on the Hezbollah parliamentary ticket in 1992, for the Mount Lebanon district, and then for Baabda in 2000 and 2005. He has also served on the National Defense and Foreign Affairs Committees of the Lebanese Parliament in 1992, 2000, 2005, 2009, and 2018. He is currently Hezbollah’s elected parliamentary representative from the District of Baabda in Mount Lebanon. He is married to Jamal Muawiyah and has five children.
