  • December 10, 2002: Canada listed Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.

Canada proscribed Hezbollah in its entirety on December 10, 2002. Prior to that, however, Canada had only banned activities on its soil by Hezbollah’s military wing, allowing its political wing to raise money in Canadian territory. However, Ottawa decided to extend the ban to the group as a whole after its Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah was quoted as endorsing global suicide bombings. Months prior to the ban, Canada’s National Post revealed that the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) had documented extensive attempts by the group to raise money and purchase supplies in Canada needed to carry out attacks against Israel.
